The defendant was charged with Murder, contrary to Common Law. The offence relates to the defendant stabbing his partner to death on the morning of 25th July 2017 at their home in Hertfordshire.
Prior to the criminal offence taking place the defendant was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, resulting in extreme weight-loss, pain, anxiety and depression.
Following extensive representations made by the defendant legal team and the instruction of a number of experts, the defendant pleaded guilty to Manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.
As a result of the mitigation presented by the defence team the defendant received 5 years imprisonment, serving up to one-half of the sentence in custody and the remainder on licence.
