Derek was admitted as a solicitor on 1st June 2001 and immediately decided to specialise exclusively in criminal defence work. Further to his passion for advocacy he qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in April 2005 with higher rights in all proceedings before transferring to the Bar and being called by The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.
Derek has a deep commitment to ensuring that all his clients have access to the best advice and advocacy. Derek is an experienced crown court advocate often appearing in cases involving serious violence, armed robberies, firearm offences a wide range of drug offences, sexual offences, money laundering and fraud. In addition he has been led by leading Queen’s Counsel in 3 murder trials. Derek has appeared on numerous occasions in the Court of Appeal including appeals against sentence and an Attorney-General reference.
