We’re pleased to confirm that Sarah Wilson got a great result for our client who had been charged with multiple serious charges. In January 2024 our client called us after being arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He had been identified as being the driver of a car that was present at the scene of a shooting in Woolwich last December due to his GPS tag.
The case was tried at Woolwich Crown Court and Sarah instructed Allan Compton together with Charley Langley from 2 Bedford Row as trial counsel. Over six days the jury heard how the car our client was driving had initially been rammed by another vehicle. The passengers who were in the car with our client then got out and proceeded to fire shots at the car as it was being driven away. Although shots were fired no one was harmed in the incident.
We were able to establish that our client at the time of the shooting was actually trapped in the driver’s seat. He was never aware that there was a firearm in the car or indeed that it had been discharged whilst he was trapped. He maintained throughout trial that he was unaware that one of the men travelling in his car had a firearm and that he played no part in the shooting.
The jury deliberated for 5 hours before coming back with a unanimous not guilty verdict.
A well deserved result by Sarah, Allan and Charley.
