Not Guilty verdict in high-profile one-punch death Manslaughter trial

Our client, represented by Director Oliver Dean, has been found not guilty of manslaughter following a high-profile one-punch death case heard at Inner London Crown Court.

The circumstances behind the One-Punch death

The manslaughter allegation arose from a fatal one-punch incident in the early hours of the morning after both men had been drinking. During the trial, the jury heard that the deceased had a verbal altercation with our client outside the venue.

After leaving the scene our client was followed by the deceased and his friend to a nearby shop. The confrontation escalated and our client threw a single punch in self-defence, causing the deceased to fall and strike his head on the pavement. He died in hospital four days later from brain injuries sustained in the fall.

Defence case accepted by the Jury

The court heard that our client had no intention of causing serious harm and was in genuine fear for his safety when he struck the deceased.

After a 6 day trial and three-and-a-half-hours of deliberation, the jury found our client not guilty of manslaughter in relation to the one-punch death.

He had previously pleaded guilty to an assault on the friend of the deceased and will be sentenced at a later date.

Comment from Oliver Dean

This is an incredibly tragic case and there are no winners. A man has lost his life and that loss will always be felt by his family and loved ones. Our client has also had to live with the consequences of that night and has been deeply affected throughout. The jury reached the right verdict on the evidence.”

Our client was represented at trial by George Carter-Stephenson KC of 25 Bedford Row.
